Not so long ago I sat down with Mr.Brand to have a chat about his latest flick Get Him To The Greek. During that process, we also talked crap about his next movie, Arthur…yes, that ancient Dudley Moore comedy which is rather funny. Anyway in between that and pausing to look at Helen Mirren nekkid in a bathtub on my iTouch, he’s started shooting this flick with Helen Mirren.

THE ONE WITH WHAT WAS GOING TO BE THE END

Yesterday evening, I made the decision to shut down this blog. Not delete it or anything, just leave it dormant. I’m finding less and less time to post things in the old style, ie extremely humorous commentary and observations…I know…you have no idea that, that exists on this blog. Then as the night rolled on and I fed Cameron at 2 in the morning I started to dwell on the whole idea of shutting down and I suppose essentially letting go. You wonder do people give a shite, but stat’s would say other wise. But you know what, when something is part of you for so long, it ain’t that easy!!!

I find myself doing more of the micro blogging stuff (ie on Twitter) far more often. It’s less time consuming and potentially makes more of an impact and is more immediate. I also have dedicated an incredible amount of time to The Movie Bit  which is a labour of love more than anything else and obviously it’s tied into my dedicated movie segment.

I’ve been online since 1997, this blog has being going since 2004 and at times it has catalogued major events in my life, let alone minor ones. On occasion it has caused a shit storm or 2 professionally and I’ve defended it to the hilt, as I believe quite strongly in what this blog and others represent. And even as I type this..what? you’ve read this far? Holy fuck…anyway…I feel this blog is an extension of who I am and it’s like an extra leg..or penis..or whatever. The posting may get slower, or faster and the twitter box is now in the main panel so plenty of stuff is still going on.

So with that in mind, upon reflection I’m not ready to shut down this bitch anytime soon.

THE ONE WITH IDIOTS

It never ceases to amaze me the idiots on the road. Was pulled into the hard shoulder near dunkettle yesterday, hazards flashing, so Ger could sort out the smallie who was not being a very good passenger. Himself was sorted in a few minutes, but in those few minutes I kept staring in the rear view and wing mirror expecting the worst. And it nearly fuckin happened.

Some idiot in a land rover driving up the hard shoulder for 3-400 meters trying to get into a lane. And the thing is, this dope was in the lane, then drove into the hard shoulder and attempted to get back into the lane he was already in!!!!! It was like a scene out of Matrix as I watched all this happen in slow motion. As I was about to drive forward at the rate of knots, he suddenly spotted the car and swerved out. Never saw anything like it in my life!!!!!!

If he had hit us, I wouldn’t be writing this right now…unless they have internet in prison, which I’m sure they do. After all they have TV’s and phones don’t they?

THE ONE WHERE ITS ALL BACK TO THE STONE THAT GRINDS

Well, then! All normality came finally rushing back last night as I went back on the airwaves after nearly 2 weeks of not being in front of a mic! Reluctantly I went back to work, but hey, that 55 inch 3D TV that Santa is bringing to the baby, ain’t gonna but itself!

It took a few minutes to get into the swing of things, as it usually does after 2 weeks away, but things went well by all accounts! The last 2 weeks have been pretty mind fuckingly brilliant! Besides having the privilege of being next to my wife for the birth of our son, I’ve been doing stuff that, a few years ago, I would have, like a Sunday World reporter, made my excuses and left. But life is funny. It’s hard to explain, actually nigh on impossible to explain, but an internal autopilot was switched on the moment Cameron was born.
Projectile shite and wee flying through the air have all been experienced without yours truly (as well as the new Mum) blinking an eye! Again, its like it’s built in as to what to do for every cry and movement. Truly bizarre, and it’s times like this that you get a new and very different perception on life.

The first moment I heard Cameron’s lungs take a gulp of air will always live with me. That moment is forever burned into my mind. As well as that, moments after being born he was in my arms and half opened his eyes when I spoke to him. That too is burned into my mind, forever. The sadness of walking out the door to work is something that is instantly removed once you back in the door and see himself, eyes wide open!
I will never forget any of those moments, and I’ll never forget the amazing staff at the CUMH, who are the real heroes of this city we call home!
The feeling of pure, raw emotion gushing down my face is something that only those who have experienced the wonder of becoming a dad, can understand.

I need to take another moment to acknowledge the huge amount of well wishes that are still constantly coming by various means, online and otherwise. Again, thank you all so much!

Anyway, that’s enough profoundness and all that jazz. Blog resumes to normal humorous tones with bitching and stupid crap this week!

THE ONE WHERE I’M A DADDY

Thank you to everyone who’s been mailing, texting, tweeting, facebooking over the last 24 hour odd hours, it is so much appreciated by all 3 of us. I’m not going to get around to thanking everyone individually, but I’m sure you’ll understand.

Anyway, this is brief, but I’m officially a Dad!!!! Mum and baby Cameron are flying! Genuinely, the greatest day of our lives and made as stress free as possible by an absolutely amazing, and I do mean an amazing team of people!

Anyway, thank you all. Hopefully next week I’ll get something a bit more substantial on here as  I have so much to say about a journey that I could never have imagined being so wonderful, amazing and absolutely EPIC!!!!!

UPDATE

I’m currently on hiatus from The Movie Bit and my own blog and off air (Mick Mulcahy will hold down the fort there) to boot as I’m about to start on a wonderful journey of daddy-hood! So Niall from the wonderful Scannain.com has kindly offered to keep things ticking over on The Movie Bit. Anyway, when stuff happens ie baby born, I’ll get something up here at some point!! Thanks for all the well wishes! Nearly there now!!!
